We are happy to announce we have another new instructor, Nancy Melville, offering classes at the store! Nancy is offering a 3 part series in Photo Folio construction that is taking place May 5, 12 and 19th from 2:30PM-5:30PM.
I took a short video to capture the interactive nature of these albums as photos could just not show this easily. The samples themselves are at the store for you to view, if you wish to see them in person.
In this 3-part series, you will learn the basic skills to create beautiful and unique photo folios.
Each class is 3 hours in length and builds upon the techniques learned in the previous class(es).
At the end of the series you will have created two different styles of folios, both of which can
hold approximately 10 or more photos. With the take home instruction sheets you will be able
to replicate these folios over and over. They make great gifts to mark special occasions such as
a baby shower, first day of school or a significant birthday or event.
Class 1: Foundational Techniques – The Basic Build
The simple Four Step Process is used in creating albums and folios of all sizes. As we discuss
applicable terminology and techniques, such as tape tabs, photo flaps and pockets, you will
complete a sample Photo Booklet to keep as your prototype. You will then build a second
identical booklet while using the Cutting Guide and Instructions handout.
Class 2: Taking it up a Notch – Interactive Elements
Building upon the basic skills and elements presented in Part 1, this class introduces you to
closures, belly bands, angled pockets and a “waterfall” feature. At the end of 3 hours you will
have created a Photo Folio, ready for your decorative touches. A Cutting Guide and
Instructions handout, developed using the Four Step Process, is yours to keep and use when
making future folios.
Class 3: The Pretty Part – Photo Mats and Patterned Paper
Put the finishing touches on your booklet or folio and make it come alive with pretty patterned
paper. You will learn how to plan which papers to use and how to size them, and how to
incorporate other special touches such as removable photo mats, ribbon and ephemera. Bring
to class either your Photo Booklet or Photo Folio along with coordinating paper in a theme of
your choice.
These classes are intended for paper crafters with experience using a paper trimmer and a
Score Board tool. The folios are constructed with cardstock only therefore this series does not
involve chipboard covers and binding systems.
The cost is $75.00 for the 3 classes. To sign up for this series or to get more information you can contact Nancy at nlmelville@gmail.com
